Space Toast

This game was created for DATT 2310. 

Description: 

In Space Toast, players dive into a compelling 2D bullet hell shooter experience where they navigate through intense enemy waves, striving to achieve the highest score imaginable. Set against the backdrop of a toast protagonist lost in space, players must battle their way through a myriad of foes. The game boasts a plethora of features and abilities, including scoring systems, collectibles, health mechanics, animations, top-down player movement, and much more. The game also uses mini narrative displays to give the user a more friendly game feel to the game. View the install instruction below to download the game and play it on your local computer. 

How To Play: 

Players will control a character with top-down movement, offering freedom of navigation. As they progress, two sets of similar enemy types will spawn: weaker ones and stronger ones requiring shooting to defeat. Players earn scores based on their kills. The game introduces collectibles, including three types of guns, health, and shield power-ups, aiding progression. However, getting hit may cause some of the gun collectibles to disappear, adding a strategic element to gameplay. And finally place can use the arrow keys/ WASD keys to move up, down, right and left with the play and along side that they can use the mouse and or spacebar to shoot.  Reminder that collectables spawn at random and is based on luck at time, you can get luck and get  good gun early or fight your way for a while using a pistol. 

Technical Aspect:

This is a 2D game created in Unity in which uses a variety of coding scripts in C# to perform. The game includes many systems such as, scoring, health, collectables, animation, particles, player movement and a enemy system.  Each part of the game builds of each other and with this, it allows for the game to be consistent while also providing the player with a fun experience playing this shooter. With this, the game also has multiple UI screens that the player can easily navigate just by the click of a button and keypad. Note that you won't be able to see the UI screen for entering your name on the leaderboard if you haven't gotten a higher score then someone else (locally) on it who has already played, so basically get as high as score to earn a spot.  

Tips & Concepts:

Some tips a player can note is, when picking up gun upgrade make sure to not pick up other gun upgrades that may spawn around as it will use the most recent gun upgrade collectables you picked up rather than the one you may intend. (If you want to keep that style gun you are using for preference) Keep in mind that you start with a standard gun that shoots relatively slow and is harder to kill enemies so always try and get around the enemies and upgrade your weapon. When you collect the shield bare in mind that you can hit enemies and not take damage for a few seconds as it acts as a shield and a way to get away from danger. The game is better if you play with a real mouse to aim better but if you got skill, a keypad is just fine! Finally bare in mind that the bigger enemy take more hits then the smaller and certain guns kill them faster, ex the laser gun kills the smaller enemy in one hit if you get it right.
